This collaboration will combine the facilities of CHDR for early phase drug development with the clinical facilities of one of the major European academic medical centers, for subsequent clinical studies. In Rotterdam the collaboration will be led by Professor Henk Hoogsteden (Pulmonology) and Professor Roy Gerth van Wijk (Allergology) and in Leiden by Professor Adam Cohen (Clinical Pharmacology). Early phase research up to Phase IIa will be performed in Leiden; whereas clinical studies (from Phase II on) in patients will be performed in Rotterdam.
Dr Zuzana Diamant, director of Respiratory and Allergy Research at CHDR, will transfer her activities to Rotterdam to lead clinical proof of concept trials from Phase II onwards. The collaboration greatly expands the capacity for joint studies, including dedicated research opportunities and development of translational models such as bronchoprovocation tests like allergen challenges. With this exciting expansion we can provide to our joint clients a service that can go from first entry into man right up to and beyond proof of concept in a world class environment.
CHDR has just completed a trial of a new asthma drug, showing proof of concept in patients and the usual human pharmacology in a group of 24 patients and healthy volunteers using highly innovative integrated protocol designs. The new collaboration will allow expansion of such programs well into Phase III.
